Lipetz has a long history of working on LGBT and AIDS causes, including as past executive director of AIDS Foundation of Chicago (she was the first full-time E.D.). Her board membership has included the ACLU (where she was a founder of the AIDS Project), Horizons, and the Center on Halsted during its years building the new community center.

She is president & CEO of Executive Service Corps of Chicago.
