Hoerl is an Actor-Director, Adjunct Professor of Acting CCPA at Roosevelt University, and Director of Meisner Training Act One Studio. In the 1980s he owned Opal Station, a popular gay entertainment bar. He was also very active as an openly gay man in Republican Party politics in the 1980s, including through CARGO, the Chicago Area Republican Gay Organization. He was co-founder and the first president of CARGO. He was appointed by Mayor Harold Washington to his Committee on Gay and Lesbian issues in 1987.
