Kevin Boyer is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. Born and raised a devout Mormon, he was an active member of his high school and college debate team, winning the national debate championship in 1985 while attending Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. During his master’s degree program in Eugene, Oregon, he finally accepted that he was gay. He came out to his family and formally quit the Mormon church after moving to Chicago in 1988.

One thing he didn’t give up from his background, however, was the spirit of volunteerism and a knack of leadership. A volunteer in Chicago since 1989, he served on the Board of Gerber/Hart library for four years, two as its Board President. He co-founded and was four-term co-chair of the Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of Chicago Games, Inc. (also known as Chicago 2006, Inc.), the host organization of the 2006 Gay Games, from 1999 to 2008 in various leadership capacities including co-chair, secretary and co-vice president. During the games themselves he was Board Co-VP, management team member, international spokesperson, and chief marketing officer.
Professionally, Kevin founded a small communications agency in 1990 and a second marketing firm in 1999. In 2007, he built upon the international marketing experience from the Gay Games and joined All Terrain, a fast-growing marketing agency based in Chicago that represents top national brands. At All Terrain he launched their public relations division, growing it to five staff members in six months. He lives in Chicago with his partner, Robert Hoeppner. He continues to play sports, especially softball and volleyball, and likes to travel.
