Summit was a long-time bar owner in Chicago. Her His 'n Hers was popular among women and men, especially performers. She is also an activist, and spearheaded the Gay Dollars protest campaign in the 1980s, with her colleague Frank Kellas. She was recently featured in the WTTW documentary Out and Proud in Chicago and is also in the companion book, Out and Proud in Chicago: An Overview of the City's Gay History.

Out and Proud in Chicago: An Overview of the City's Gay Community, the book is edited by Tracy Baim and features the contributions of more than 20 prominent historians and journalists. It is published by Surrey Books, an Agate imprint, and is hard cover, 224 pages, 4-color, with nearly 400 photos.
