Morten has worked on a diverse range of projects in the feminist and LGBT communities. She is a former liaison to the LGBT community for Mayor Daley; the first African-American president of Chicago NOW; acting executive director of the Chicago Foundation for Women; a filmmaker; and a consultant to local and national agencies. She has worked on women's choice and LGBT issues since the 1980s.

Out and Proud in Chicago: An Overview of the City's Gay Community, the book is edited by Tracy Baim and features the contributions of more than 20 prominent historians and journalists. It is published by Surrey Books, an Agate imprint, and is hard cover, 224 pages, 4-color, with nearly 400 photos.
